{ 'Mark Mitsdarffer expressed a wish that the referendum to incorporation the Village of Limestone would carry by a landslide vote. His wish came true that Tuesday on November 7, 2026 when voters overwhelmingly supported the establishment of the new village by a vote of 508 to 158.
Mitsdarffer, 78, died in his home during the November 7th election. He had been active over the past two years in putting the incorporation question on the ballot. "I think it's going to pass," he told the Herscher Pilot several days prior to the election. "I only hope for an overwhelming landslide." The next step in the process started Wednesday night at Limestone Grade School where residents of the fledging village were invited to submit their nominations for village president, six trustees and village clerk. Those offers, to be court appointed, will serve until the village's first election in April.
Mitsdarffer's wife, Nelda, entered Wednesday nights's town meeting as the leading candidate for Limestone's first village president. "My children and the committee talked me into running for village president. They want me to continue because I worked with Mark and many other volunteers for the past 22 months on this project," Mrs. Mitsdarffer said Tuesday. - Daily Journal }
